Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Szeged: on the top

Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Szeged came in first place among Hungarian faculties in the internationally recognized Academic Ranking of the World Universities (ARWU) list.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities, also known as the Shanghai list has been prepared by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, an independent organization, since 2003. According the recently published list of 2019, our Faculty has reached its highest world ranking (151–200.) ever, and has been ranked as the best pharmacy training in the whole Central and Eastern European region. Moreover, our Faculty has not only been ranked as the best Faculty of Pharmacy in Hungary, but also achieved a remarkably good result among the faculties of University of Szeged, the best university of the Hungarian countryside. Pharmacy training of Semmelweis University has reached place 401–500, and only these two Hungarian universities’ pharmacy trainings are listed among the publicly available top 500.

To prepare the ARWU list, more than 1800 higher education institutes are ranked every year, and the best 1000 are published. ARWU uses six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance of a university.

According to the publicly available data of the Library of Hungarian Scientific Works (https://www.mtmt.hu/), the Faculty of Pharmacy of Szeged is among the leading faculties in Hungary with regard to scientific performance. In 2018, 254 scientific papers were published by the Faculty’s researchers, and in the same year, 2010 articles cited the work of the Faculty’s researchers. Our Faculty excels at academic performance per capita among the faculties of University of Szeged.

"Qualities of scientific work and education are linked; thus, I am particularly pleased that our performance is recognized on the basis of objective indicators by international and independent organizations. But the feedback, we have received from the applicants to the Faculty is just as important as the ranking: this year, plenty of excellent students applied for our Faculty from all over the country; therefore, despite the rising of the admission score-limit, we could start the academic year with full capacity." - said Dr. István Zupkó, Dean of the Faculty.
